MPC Paris delivered all 575 visual effects shots for Cold Storage, covering the full range of VFX work, from invisible fixes and makeup enhancements to creature work, slime simulations and large-scale destruction.
As MPC Paris VFX Supervisor Nikolas D’Andrade explains in the interview, the project required the team to tackle an unusually wide spectrum of effects.
“Creatively, Cold Storage was a true challenge, covering the entire VFX spectrum: from basic rig cleanup to full environment destruction, creatures, digital set extensions, and the enhancement of practical SFX makeup.”
In total, around 500 artists contributed to the project across MPC teams in Paris and Bangalore during the different phases of production, reflecting the scale and complexity of the work.

At the heart of the film is the evolving parasitic fungus, which required extensive research and development to design and simulate its behavior. The team approached the organism almost like a living system inside the CG environment.
“We needed an asset we could almost ‘release’ into a 3D scene and let it live its life… but still control its propagation shot by shot.”
The article also dives into MPC Paris’ pipeline and production approach, including the use of Maya, Houdini, Arnold and Nuke, as well as the studio’s long-established internal workflows shared with The Mill Paris.
