Synopsis: Jeanne is being led by a group of resistance fighters to the place of her execution. As she walks toward death, she reflects on the twists of fate that brought her here — from her childhood in her parents’ butcher shop at the turn of the 20th century, to her wandering years in Paris, her meeting with the fearless Céleste, her reunion with Guillaume de Barante, and her adventures through war, Brazil, and the Roaring Twenties, all the way to her fulfilled dream of becoming a countess. Jeanne’s life is a relentless journey through a century, inevitably driving her toward her fall.
