Synopsis
Two French cops, investigating separate murders, find a common link between the killings. As more murders occur, the two find an increasing number of horrific details pointing to a conspiracy.
In 2000, The Crimson Rivers marked an important moment in contemporary French cinema. Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, the film adapts Jean-Christophe Grangé’s bestselling novel, creating a dark and striking universe brought to life by Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel.
Part of the visual effects were created by the teams at Mikros VFX, now MPC Paris, with Krao as Visual Effects Supervisor and Christophe Courgeau as Lead Matte Painter. Shot by Thierry Arbogast across the natural landscapes of Isère, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie, the film relied on subtle but crucial VFX and matte painting work to enhance the imposing and atmospheric alpine settings. Its recent 4K UHD restoration highlights the visual craftsmanship that continues to make this thriller compelling today.
